It's very sad. The Japense gov't needs to help too, but it seems it would rather talk about the problem and make photo ops of people singing karaoke in mobile trailers as a way to say, "We are helping these victims return their lives to normal." I beg to differ; the seawalls and seabreaks often sent / redirected more wave water into other towns that damaged them more than the would be had there been no sea redirective barriers. but now they are happy to shell out money to rebuild all the destroyed and damaged sea barriers. They need to level thetops of the mountains near those costal areas and help those people rebuild their houses, etc. on flat, high, safer ground. But this was suggested back in the 1960's and the Shinto suppporters bacame very angry and nixed the idea, saying that the kami (gods) would be angered if that much dirt were moved. I hope Japan can overcome its superstituions so that these people can rebuild their lives.

Another dirty secret that the inept gov't would rather you not consider is these areas have been contaminated with nuclear materials (not just nuclear radiation which will go away). If you get one spect of sesium in your system, you are likely to be dead in 2 years. This is worse than Chernobil, much worse. At least Chernobil was in a remote area. Tohoku is full of people.

Just google found here... Just wanted to say, I've also done the Fuji-san thing but started the climb in Kawaguchiko morning the day before. I've done it twice, and it's only an attractive climb up to the fifth station (in fact, absolutely amazing)... The fifth onwards is as you said.

There is no embarrassment for the whole family because everyone understands the context and the "spirit" of the matsuri, and that participation is understood to confer the spiritual benefits of fertility, prosperity, etc.

It is heart melting video. Japan is a nice place to visit but after the tsunami devastation there is so much loss of lives and money.

If the muslims are so perfect, how come they go to Bombay, India and Phillipines to have sex with prostitutes. Christian religion never teaches or advocates outrageous sexual behaviour. How to learn kanji says: It's not that our prayers aren't enough... they are useless.

Only tangible actions like donatives, physical helping in there, teaching... real actions are what really counts. I truly wish I could help even with a little money... but I don't have any.

If you guys have some tangible way of helping Japan, do it!
